New player

My 7-year old daughter asked me this morning before school why I don't play D&D "board game" any more and I told her I don't really have anybody to play with...  She said, "Well, I'll play with you."  She is creative, thoughtful, and interested in righting wrongs in the world.  What a perfect player.  I think we will give it a try in the old 1st edition style (more role-play and less numbers/rules mastery).  Her and my son (11) should make a formidable team.  Maybe a little Keep on the Boarderlands to get them started.

Annals of the Black Company

Read the first chapter today and was very, very pleased.  Mr. Cook is a "real" writer.  He didn't just tell you what happened (which was amazing, btw) he added very subtle phrases that were very poetic and profound.  When he called the Black Company's future their "masked tomorrows" I thought, "Wow!  What a creative way to state that considering the masked legate was hiring them and their future was uncertain."  That's just good stuff there.

Reading these again is going to be such a pleasure now that I'm getting closer to adulthood.

Oblivion observation

I was playing a little Oblivion last night and was just roaming around an old abandoned fort.  After clearing it out of Trolls (not easy, btw) I was ready to go back to town, so I ran back to the exit.  Somehow, there were (2) Trolls by the exit, so I just ran by them thinking they would just stay put.  They didn't.  They followed me out into the open and chased me down the common road.  I was faster, so I kept them from gaining on me but just barely.  So I kept turning around to see if they would give up (like in other games I play) and they DIDN'T.  I was determined to take them all the way back to Imperial City if necessary, but they started landing blows.  I was getting nervous.  Then, I saw an Imperial Guard on horseback patrolling the roads, and I thought SURELY the game isn't smart enough to have that now NPC engage in our melee.  I was wrong AGAIN.  He dismounted and engaged them both with his silver longsword and I ran for cover and drew my bow.  I helped where I could, but he dispatched one and then fell to the other.  I finished off the remaining Troll who was severely wounded with a few arrows and a weak fireball to stop them from regenerating.  I was then able to collect the Imperial armor/weapons and headed back to town.  It was an amazing experience and one that made me like the game very much.  Looking forward to crossing monsters with NPC's again.  I love doing that...

PBEM intro

You live in a country at War!  The very long war between two nations has drug on for years and drained the towns and cities of their fighting men and women.  The smaller villages and hamlets are most impacted and many have no surviving garrison to speak of except the old and very young.  YOUR village is a minor exception since you have come of age.  With your strength and skill, you have been tapped for more than a few tasks of late, yet you feel something bigger is coming...  Over the past few months, your village has noticed the increasing rumors and wild stories of encroaching humanoids.  Vile creatures from stories used to frighten children have apparently sprung to life and have been spotted stealing sheep and livestock on the outskirts of the village proper.  So far, it has been just stories told around the tavern, but yesterday, a farmer was killed in the outlying fields by arrows.  Crude, black and red feathered arrows.  Not the work of fantasy...

You have been summoned by the resident captain of the watch with a proposition.  They need your help.  Can you investigate and determine who has committed this crime?  Was it fantasy or has the absence of warriors finally caught up to your village? Are the "creatures" finally seizing their opportunity to strike?  Why now?  Who are they?

(If you want to start solo, you can start your journey now)

(If you want to add other PC's, we will add this)
In addition to your services, the regional baron had sent a summons out across the land for help for the outlying villages.  A few have answered the call...  They sit in the room with you now. (Insert additional characters here)

Please begin at once.  We fear a direct attack on the village is inevitable unless you all can stop them and let them know that your village is NOT defenseless...

New PBEM coming soon

Trying to put the finishing touches on a new Play by Email D&D game (PBEM).  Entry level party of 4-6 characters (D20 3.0 or 3.5 rules).  Starting point established and character concepts determined.  Have been collecting maps/modules/hooks/etc.. to help flesh out the open world type play of D&D.  Tiz is notorious for taking things in an unexpected direction, so I want to be prepared and not have a lag in the game trying to figure out how to DM a Gnomish airship jousting tournament.

Can't wait to start...
